Blue Orchids

I made an interesting discovery yesterday while looking at orchids on www.orchidspecies.com

Previously, I thought there was no such a thing as an orchid that was truly blue (as you may have seen, most Vandas they call blue are, in actuality, varying shades of violet).

I learned of the genus Thelymitra, which has many species that are very very blue, much to my suprise and delight. They're terrestrial, and the vast majority of them are Australian. They look rather a lot like Delphinium or Tricyrtis. (Both are species I am also fond of, though not to the point of insanity obsession, as with orchids.)

I have yet to finish going through every single entry on orchidspecies.com, does anyone know of any other orchid genera that have blue species?

There is also a blue phaleanopsis as well. It is a rare hybrid, but the flowers are powder blue! I have been trying to get my hands on it forever! My parents have one and it is stunning!

I didn't know there were other orchid lovers on this group! What do you specialize in? My favorites are the pleurothalid (sp?) species - the miniature cool growing ones :) I am counting down the days until I can afford a cool growing greenhouse!

I love orchids, but I kill them. Slow painfull (???) deaths.

I've resigned myself to treating them as unusually durable cut flowers, and giving away the leafy plant parts after the flowers are gone. I know they won't bloom again for me.
